On June 14, 2024, the top neuroscience journal Brain published online the latest findings from the China Epilepsy Gene 1.0 Project in the paper titled “Heterozygous variants in USP25 cause genetic generalized epilepsy.”

Dr. Luo Junxia, a young physician from Children's Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University, and Dr. Wang Jie, a young physician from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, have identified MPDZ as a novel epilepsy-causing gene under the joint supervision of Director Gao Zaifen and Professor Liao Weiping.

Recently, our Institute of Neuroscience, in collaboration with the Danish National Epilepsy Center and the University of Pennsylvania, discovered a new human pathogenic gene.

The comprehensive epilepsy center team at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, in collaboration with researchers from multiple epilepsy centers including the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Wuhan Children's Hospital, Maoming People's Hospital, and Guangzhou First People's Hospital, jointly discovered a new epilepsy-causing gene, the BSN gene. This is another collaborative achievement of the China Epilepsy Gene 1.0 Project.

Dr. Chen Zheng, a young pediatric neurologist from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, discovered a novel epilepsy-causing gene, CELSR1, while participating in the advanced training program on whole-exome sequencing data analysis for epilepsy.

Li Xiang, a young neurologist from Shenzhen Nanshan People's Hospital (Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Shenzhen Hospital), identified BCOR as a novel epilepsy-causing gene while participating in an advanced training program on whole-exome sequencing data analysis for epilepsy.

Dr. Chen Zheng, a young pediatric neurologist from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, discovered a novel epilepsy-causing gene, CELSR1, while participating in the advanced training program on whole-exome sequencing data analysis for epilepsy.
